WHAT IS HATHA YOGA

Hatha Yoga is a path toward creating balance and uniting opposites to develop a balance of strength and flexibility. This type of yoga is a series of asanas, or postures, designed to open the channels of the body so that energy can flow freely, especially along the spine.

Hatha is translated as ha meaning "sun" and tha meaning "moon." This refers to the balance of masculine aspects—active, hot, sun—and feminine aspects—receptive, cool, moon—within all of us. 
The asanas use the breath or pranayama, to balance effort and surrender in each pose.

Hatha yoga is a powerful tool for self-transformation. It asks us to bring attention to our breath, which helps to still the fluctuations of the mind and be more present in the unfolding of each moment. Practicing yoga increases strength, flexibility, balance and posture while opening the heart to a meditative state of calm.
